Jansher outguns Jahangir

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, two of the greatest squash players of all time, renewed their once bitter rivalry on Wednesday for a cause. The champions of yesteryear delighted the spectators at the Mushaf Squash Complex showing flashes of their past brilliance in an exhibition match to raise funds for the Oct 8 earthquake victims.

While the two were able to raise Rs 800,000, missing was the ferocity and power in their strokeplay that used to be their hallmark in the 1980s through to the early 90s.

Quick on his feet and still pencil-thin as he used to be in his playing days, Jansher defeated Jahangir 9-1 in the match that was scheduled just before the final of the World Team Championship.

Jahangir, winner of the British Open, a record 10 times on the trot, was in a jovial mood and joked with Jansher and the referee during the course of play.

Jansher, who won the British title for six successive years, also wore a broad smile as he made his overweight opponent run around the court.

Both players brought smiles to everyone present and their thoughtfulness of doing their bit for the quake survivors, was deeply appreciated.
