ISLAMABAD: About 2,500 policemen will be deployed on security duty in the capital on Eidul Azha on Sunday.

According to a security plan, worship places have been divided into three categories - A, B and C.

The category A has 40 mosques and 20 imambargahs, B has 365 mosques and six imambargahs while the remaining are in the C category.

As many as 1,000 policemen along with volunteers and guards will be deployed in 1,032 mosques and 28 imambargahs for security cover during Eid congregations under the supervision of four superintendents of police and 11 assistant/deputy superintendents.

More than 100 policemen under the supervision of an SP will provide security at the main congregations to be held at Faisal Mosque, the police said. Besides, vigilance will be mounted with safe city cameras and police teams.

Over 150 officials of Special Branch will also be deployed at sensitive areas for collection of intelligence and surveillance, the police said.

Teams from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) will also be deployed at recreational spots.

The Eagle Squad will also be patrolling different areas, graveyards, markets and places of Eid congregations.

Amjad Iqbal adds from Taxila: Police personnel will be deployed at 377 mosques and imambargahs on the first day of Eidul Azha across the district.

According to the police spokesman, Tahir Iqbal, Attock police had chalked out a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha, under which over 2,000 police personnel will be deployed at mosques, imambargahs and important buildings.

As many as 35 sections of the Elite Force would also perform their security duty, he said, adding that security personnel would be present around other important buildings to thwart unpleasant incidents.

He said all types of leaves for police officers had been cancelled for Eidul Azha. The security plan was chalked out in collaboration with the district administration and other law enforcement agencies, Mr Iqbal said, adding all police officers have been directed to personally patrol their jurisdiction areas to ensure implementation of security measures.

No person should be allowed to enter mosques or imambargahs without a proper body search, walk through gates should be installed in open places besides establishment of a car parking away from gathering places, he said.

“Police in-charges of all circles would ensure proper security arrangements at the Eid congregations,” he said, adding that no person or organisation could collect animal hides without prior permission from the district administration and standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be implemented in true spirit.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 also cancelled the leave of its staff in Attock. According to District Emergency Officer Ali Hussain, special rescue points have been established around water points to launch an operation in case of flooding in low-lying areas.
