MANSEHRA: Five members of a family, including a man and his son, were killed when a pickup van plunged into a deep ravine in Karo area of Lower Kohistan on Thursday.

“The bodies of all five dead have been retrieved from the ravine and shifted to the nearby health facility,” Lower Kohistan district police officer Zulfiqar Khan Jadoon told mediapersons.

The vehicle, which was on its way to Gilgit from Rawalpindi, plunged into the ravine at a sharp turn. A police party led by Mr Jadoon reached the spot along with Rescue 1122 officials and retrieved the dead from the ravine.

The deceased were identified as Mir Alam, Mohammad Farooq, Fazl Wahid, Bulbul Nabi and his minor son.

“We have sent bodies of all the five persons to Gilgit in ambulances from Pattan tehsil hospital,” The DPO said. He said that the motorists and drivers should drive slowly and carefully while passing through Kohistan district via Karakoram Highway for their own and passengers’ safety.
