KARACHI, Dec 13: A top official of the Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) said on Tuesday that Karachi may host the proposed Pakistan Asian satellite badminton tournament in November next provided Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) gives a green signal.

“I will have no hesitation in shifting the venue from Islamabad to Karachi provided PBF get the nod from ABC,” Syed Mohib Asad, president of the PBF announced during a reception held by the Sindh Badminton Association to honour their players for winning laurels at the recently concluded National junior championship held at Islamabad.

He said there was no dearth of talent in Sindh and assured that they would be groomed under the umbrella of PBF and would also ensure they get justice in selection of national teams.

Highlighting salient features, he said PBF national coach Tariq Farooq would be sent to provincial capitals for training youngsters.

He disclosed that PBF would do away with the existing selection system of national team on ranking basis. In future, teams would be selected after trials to be held on league basis, he remarked.

He also named a three-member selection committee. To be headed by him, it includes Naqi Mohsin and Saleem Paracha.

Referring to discipline, he said following complaints, he had set up a committee to ensure that such things are not repeated in future.

Unveiling the next year’s commitments, he said Lahore and Karachi would play host to the National senior and junior championships. An All-Pakistan ranking tournament had been allotted to Peshawar and Quetta, he said.

In addition, he said, a Pakistan-Iran test series was also on the anvil.

Lauding the performance of Sindh’s players he assured that those who were not employed would either get employment or scholarship.

Promising Sara Khan pocketed girls (under-19) title, Maroof Essa bagged girls (under-16) crown while Ali Mehdi grabbed boys (under-16) title. Sara-Maroof pair also bagged girls (under-19) doubles.
