Jewellers flay police

Published December 14, 2005

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 13: Jewellers put their shutters down in protest against a broad daylight dacoity in the Sarafa Bazaar here on Tuesday. Reports said two employees of Sajjid Umer were opening the shop when three armed men came there on a motorcycle. Two of them entered the shop and held up the employees at gunpoint. They escaped after collecting 80-tola gold jewellery.

Following the incident, the jewellers and traders closed their shops and protested against inefficiency of the police and the administration.

Later, they held a protest meeting where Sarafa Association president Salahuddin and other office-bearers condemned the poor law and order situation in the city. They demanded early arrest of the accused and recovery of the booty.

Kotwali police have registered a case.
