KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday announced that it would organise an international marathon in Karachi in December in which athletes from all over the world would participate.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput and attended by Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon, city police chief Javed Alam Odho, sports secretary and others.
The meeting was informed that ‘Karachi Marathon’ would begin from Frere Hall and its 42-kilometre-long route would include Tower, I.I Chundrigar Road, Mazar-i-Quaid, Clifton and Saddar areas.
The meeting was informed that national and international participants would travel through different areas of the city to get acquainted with its beautiful places, buildings and architecture.
According to a statement issued here, the chief secretary formed a committee to be headed by the commissioner and asked him to ensure all arrangements for the success of the international event. “The marathon will be certified by the International Organisation of Australia. The participants and winners will also get certificates and prizes,” the statement added.
