SWABI: Leaders of various unions of teachers of public sector educational institutions here on Sunday demanded restoration of the old pension system and 100 per cent increase in medical and conveyance allowances.

In a meeting here, they rejected the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s contributory pension scheme, claiming the new policy was a step towards privatisation of the public sector institutions.

The unions of the teachers and other public sector departments have established the All Government Employees Grand Alliance to fight for their rights.

The participants of the meeting said the same facilities given to the public sector employees by the federal government should also be extended to the workers in the province.

Amjid Ali, Malgari Ustazan provincial president, said that they had decided to adopt a new line of action to counter the KP government’s anti-employees policy.

School Officers Association president Fida Mohammad said that the province should follow the policy of the federal government.

Meanwhile, leaders and workers of various welfarebodies staged a protest demonstration on Sunday against the sky rocketing prices of essential commodities in the country.

They gathered in Topi city and after passing through different markets reached the general bus stand.

Addressing the protesters, Samajee Behbood Rabita Council general secretary Arif Shah said the ruling elites would put more financial burden on the masses if they failed to put up resistance.
