THIS refers to the report ‘Zaheer Abbas recovering, remains in ICU’ (June 23). We all love the legendary batsman and pray for his long, happy and healthy life. We all know the mighty Zed is strong and knows how to face and overcome challenges in life. The whole nation is praying for him. In fact, the entire international cricketing community is wishing him well, and we are sure that he would soon recover fully from whatever it is that is causing him trouble.

The Asian Bradman, as he was famously called, was a shining star in international cricket and around the English county circuit. The former Pakistan captain in 2020 created a place for himself in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket Hall of Fame, becoming the sixth Pakistani to have been thus honoured.

The stylish batsman, one of the most elegant ever, not only played cricket but gave a unique style to the game. He remains the only batsman from Asia with a century of first class centuries to his name. His appetite for runs was amazing.

On my last visit to a local golf club, I saw him there with the characteristic smile, poise and dignity with which Zaheer Abbas carries himself around. We all wish to see him smiling again soon.
