KARACHI: A three-way tie is on the cards for the Karachi Cup when it takes place in the Gymkhana race meeting here at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The contenders for the cup race are bay horses Fabulous and Geo Jalal and mare Golden Arrow.

Having won the last three races on trot, Fabulous will make his appearance after more than two-and-a-half months while Geo Jalal obliged punters by getting the better of bay horse Waris last week.

If backed by connection, Golden Arrow may return to winning ways which was interrupted by Shahbaz a fortnight ago.

Experts believe that thoroughbred chestnut colt King’s Ransom has the ability to pull off an upset in a field of six horses who will vie for honours under scale order II, III and IV to be run over four-and-a-half furlongs. He will return to competition after April 3.

Either of the two — mare Sweet Golden and chestnut horse Marvellous — look poised to clinch the fourth and supporting event to be contested over four-and-a-half furlongs under scale order IV, V and VI.

The former has won four races on the trot while the latter returned with flying colours in the last outing. The race has seven acceptors.

Horses from the stables of trainer Haji Abdul Majeed look fancied to dominate the opening race under scale order VIII to be run over four furlongs.

The quartet includes mare Stifee, bay horse Deewana, mares Sheba and Shabnam.

They may be opposed by bay horse Daffodles Wave among seven starters.

Bay horse Thunder Strike is expected to repeat his winning feat when he appears against six opponents in the second race under scale order VI and VII that will go over four furlongs.

Thunder Strike had obliged all and sundry while edging Stifee by distance last week.

He is expected to be followed by Baba Champion, Faster Than You and Little Darling.

The first race starts at 3:00pm.
