ISLAMABAD, Dec 10: A British Airways 747 freight aircraft arrived here on Saturday carrying a cargo of life-saving supplies for the October 8 earthquake survivors. According to a statement, the cargo plane carrying 120 tons of tents, blankets, school and medical equipment and winter clothing was offered free of charge by the British Airways on humanitarian grounds.

Four organizations — Islamic Relief, Muslim Hands, West Midlands Fire Service and Unicef — had each been allocated space to take 30 tons of goods on the freight aircraft.

The airlines general counsel, Rob Webb, said: “Many of our people have been affected by the South Asian earthquake disaster.

“Our staff has shown great level of commitment and donated generously and our company is responding to the many requests to use our cargo resources to help in times of need.”
