LOWER DIR: Two brothers, including a Rescue 1122 staffer, were killed and two others injured when rival groups exchanged fire over a petty issue in Kamala area of Chakdara here on Sunday, residents and the police said.

They said a children’s quarrel led to exchange of harsh words between the groups, who then opened fire at each other. As a result of the firing, Inayat Khan and his brother Azmat Khan died on the spot, while Mansoor and Ibrar from both the parties sustained injuries.

Mansoor was referred to a Peshawar hospital, while injured Ibrar escaped from the scene.

The Chakdara police registered a case and started further investigation. Residents said a children’s quarrel occurred a year ago became the reason for the shooting.

Also in the day, a seven-year-old child died when he touched a bare electricity wire in his home in Mian Banda area of Timergara, the residents said.

Meanwhile, the Balambat police recovered a decomposed body from a nullah in Anangoro Khwar near Hajiabad the other day. The police said the body was beyond recognition.

TIMBER SEIZED: The administration and forest officials foiled a bid to smuggle timber in Miskini area of Jandol the other day.

The alleged smuggler identified as Noorul Islam was arrested along with 17 timber slabs.
