RAWALPINDI: Divisional Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal has appointed the assistant commissioner headquarters as the director staff to the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, which drew criticism from senior officials.

However, Punjab Additional Secretary Boards of Higher Education Department Dr Rehana Ilyas told Dawn that there was no wrong in the appointment, as the commissioner appointed the assistant commissioner headquarters as the director staff to run the day-to-day affairs of the board.

“The acting BISE chairman did not create any post nor allocated salary for the assistant commissioner. The assistant commissioner will carry out file work as the commissioner has to look after other administrative issues of the division. The commissioner will remain the signing authority and no notification will be issued without his signatures,” she said.

To a question about appointment of new chairman BISE, she said: “We have started the process of recruitment and applications have been received. We have shortlisted the candidates as per their qualifications.”
