KOHAT: Hundreds of residents of Junglekhel area demonstrated at the Peshawar Square here on Tuesday against excessive electricity loadshedding.

They blasted the government for steeply increasing the electricity tariff but not making any effort to cut outages. They demanded an end to excessive loadshedding and withdrawal of increase in electricity rates.

They said outages had caused water shortage in the area.

Malik Sahibzada Afridi, a protester, said the people living along the Hangu highway suffered three hours long outage after every hour.

Dr Hashim, a member of Junglekhel welfare organisation, said the Peshawar Electric Supply Company should abide by the agreement that loadshedding won’t exceed eight hours.

He regretted that Pesco was resorting to 16 hours of outages.

He demanded supply of electricity to the area from KDA grid station, which had been constructed on their collective lalnd, instead of the far-flung Rawalpindi Road grid.
