KARACHI: Legal proceedings remained suspended in the City Courts for the fifth consecutive day on Monday as lawyers continued their boycott in protest against a judicial officer.

Hundreds of cases fixed for the day had to be simply adjourned as lawyers did not turn up to plead them in the courts of District-East.

The strike forced a large number of visiting litigants as well as undertrial prisoners to face difficulties since their cases could not be taken up for hearing.

Members of the Karachi Bar Association have been boycotting the legal proceedings since June 1, alleging that District and Sessions Judge (East) Khalid Hussain Shahanihad got released a watchman, identified as Faisal, whom they had got arrested over his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
