KARACHI: With hopes to launch commercial operation of first of the total seven routes of the Peoples Bus Service project, the Sindh government on Saturday began test of the buses imported from China which successfully completed over 29-kilometre journey without any hiccup.

Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon along with his colleagues of the provincial cabinet Saeed Ghani and Waqar Mehdi took a ride from Model Colony on Sharea Faisal that ended at Avari Tower completing the travel in little less than an hour.

“Under the Peoples’ Bus Service project, the Sindh government is set to ply 240 buses on seven different routes of Karachi and this is their test run,” said Mr Memon while talking to reporters.

“Out of total 250 buses 140 have arrived and the consignment of the rest of the vehicles is expected to arrive soon. Among these 250 buses, 240 buses would be running in Karachi while the remaining 10 buses would run in Larkana.”

After more than 14 years of its rule, the PPP government in Sindh has managed to display some success in its civic administration amid growing criticism from political opponents and approaching local government elections in the city.

The momentum got further pace after the Mr Memon took charge as transport minister last month and took personal interest in completing several transport-related tasks pending for past several months in his ministry within weeks.
