LAHORE, Dec 9: Aisamul Haq won the ITF International tennis championship in Chandigarh, India, after beating Germany‘s Frank Moser. Both the players fought two and a half hour long battle and Aisam eventually won the match 7-6 (6),6-7 (5),6-4.

Aisam took the first set in a tie break, but Moser levelled by winning the second set also in a tie break.

In the final set Aisam finally prevailed over the German and broke his serve at 4-5 to take the set at 6-4.

In this stage Aisam was in a crisis situation at 3-3 when Moser made two superb winners to make it 0-30 and but could not take any advantage of the situation.

At 4-4 again Aisam was a break point down but bailed himself out by hitting an ace on his second serve. At 4-5 on Frank Moser’s serve Aisam managed to set up the first match point and made no mistake to secure the win.

Earlier in the semifinal Aisam defeated top Indian player and top seed of the tournament Rohan Bhopanna who was the hot favourite for the title, with a score line of 6-3,6-7 (1),6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Aisam beat Japanese player Go Soeda 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 and in the earlier rounds he outclassed Polish player Michal Przysiczny 7-6 (3), 6-3. This is Aisam 36th title win in the international men’s tennis circuit.—APP
