ABBOTTABAD, Dec 9: A patient suspected of having contracted Congo fever died in the Combined Military Hospital here on Thursday evening. Abid Ali, son of Sadiq Hussain, was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital medical ward two days ago in critical condition. He was bleeding from the mouth and rectum.

Hospital sources said that he was diagnosed to have had viral haemorrhagic fever and after two days he was referred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

During the patient’s stay at the Combined Military Hospital, he was kept in isolation with extraordinary preventive measures adopted by the hospital administration, said a hospital staffer.

When the hospital administration was contacted, they did not confirm the cause of the death and said that they were waiting for medical reports of the patient. But, the records of the patient revealed that the observation made by the doctors resembled viral haemorrhagic fever.

Hospital authorities have asked the patient’s relatives to bury him as early as possible.
