ISLAMABAD, Dec 9: Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari on Thursday told the National Assembly that the quantum of loss caused to the telecommunication network in the NWFP due to earthquake amounted to about Rs112.225 million.

In a written reply to a question of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) MNA Belum Hasnain, the minister said the government was taking various steps for restoration and rehabilitation of the telecommunication network in the province.

Mr Leghari said the survey of pending exchanges, whose external network was badly affected, had been completed. He said the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) was ready to execute the work but consistent earthquake’s aftershocks and mudsliding did not allow carrying out rehabilitation work.
