LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi says Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal and IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan will be summoned by the Privileges Committee of the Punjab Assembly and punished for police violence against elected members.

“The IGP and Chief Secretary are the real mastermind behind the police violence against the members of the Punjab Assembly,” Mr Elahi said while speaking to a delegation of lawyers led by former Lahore High Court Bar president Jahangir A. Jhoja at his Punjab Assembly Chamber on Wednesday.

The speaker said the European Union and Commonwealth countries were also bringing resolutions on the conduct of the police that tortured MPAs during their peaceful long march.

Discussing current constitutional and political `crisis’ in Punjab, Mr Elahi said “if a no-confidence motion comes, Hamza Shehbaz will be no longer be the chief minister,” he said and added that the PTI and PML-Q were now waiting for the court decisions with regard to the election and oath taken by Hamza Shehbaz.

WOMEN MPs: Meanwhile, speaking to a delegation of PTI MPAs, Parvez Elahi said politics of the country was at a critical

stage and there was no such thing as government.

The delegation included Khayal Ahmed Kastro, Asghar Ali Sardar, Zainab Umair, Shamsa Ali Khan and Talat Fatema Naqvi.
