LEAKED PAPER

Published May 30, 2022

Despite tall claims made by the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi (BSEK), regarding some mechanism to prevent papers from getting leaked out ahead of time, the Class IX Computer Studies question paper was available on social media minutes before the exam was scheduled to start. This exposed the incompetence of the relevant authorities. BSEK can learn from its counterpart in Rawalpindi which cancelled two exams and also apprehended one accused in the case. BSEK should review its distribution system and take immediate steps to prevent paper leakage in the future.

KARACHI ON THE ROCKS: After remaining relatively calm for some time, it is a cause of concern that the metropolitan city recently find itself rocked again by a trio of blasts within a few weeks. The provincial government must improve its security arrangements to maintain the law and order situation and to protect lives and property.

BASIC RIGHT: Located close to the Gadap Town on the outskirts of Karachi, Cadet College Karachi employs area locals as security guards or peons. Despite serving for more than seven years, they are paid only Rs17,000 per month without any bonus or annual increment. The authorities concerned should protect the basic rights of the locals.

UNSAFE WATER: The city of Ratodero, located in the Larkana district of Sindh, has been deprived of clean and safe drinking water for a long time. Limited supply of potable water is still going on in some parts on the outer side of the city, but the rest of the localities are simply going dry. The locals have to travel miles in search of water that is fit enough for the humans to consume. Indeed, many fail in that search for one reason or the other and subsequently have to make do with contaminated water. The officials should wake up to the reality and provide safe drinking water.
