SIALKOT, Dec 8: Executive District Officer (Education) Dr Saifullah Cheema on Thursday conducted a surprise raid at the ‘closed’ Government Girls Primary School, Rawal Kakar-Sialkot and found its headmistress, all the teaching and clerical staff absent from duty.
Villagers told the EDO that the headmistress and other teachers were on leave by locking the school for the last 10 days. They said the school staff used to go on leave every month in connivance with the headmistress.
Mr Cheema has ordered a departmental inquiry against the entire school staff and issued them show-cause notices.
The EDO also visited government boys and girls high schools in Glotiyan-Daska to get information about students’ problems.
PTU: The Punjab Teachers Union has expressed its grave concern over the large-scale issuance of show-cause notices to heads of schools and colleges for allegedly showing poor performance.
Talking to the press here on Thursday, PTU Information Secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra termed the notices unjustified. He said respective educational boards were equally responsible for bad results of colleges and schools.
Mr Nagra said the step had disheartened the teachers. He said the union had demanded immediate withdrawal of show-cause notices.
