RAWALPINDI: Police on Sunday said they have arrested three men for their alleged involvement in the murder of a retired naval official during a robbery in Bahria Town Phase VII in April.

The arrests came about after City Police Officer (CPO) Omer Saeed Malik constituted three teams — one led by the CIA, the second by the SP investigation and the third by the SSP operations. They conducted raids in different cities which led to the tracing of the suspects.

Wazir Khan, 70, was gunned down by three men who entered his house. The suspects seemed to be aged between 25 and 30 years.

Qasir Mahmood Khan, 34, son-in-law of the deceased, had lodged an FIR with the police saying his father-in-law Wazir Khan and Hamad Khan were watching television when the armed men entered the house.

He said one of the burglars held his father-in-law at gunpoint who tried to overpower the gunman. However, his accomplices managed to run towards the main door. In the meantime, the suspect, who Wazir Khan was holding, fired five bullets at him, which resulted in his death. He said Hamad tried to catch the other culprits but he was also fired upon and was injured. The complainant said when he tried to overpower the culprits, he was also shot at and injured.

A police spokesman said shortly after registration of the FIR, teams launched an investigation and managed to trace the culprits with the help of CCTV cameras and other evidence.

The suspects have been sent to jail for identification which would be conducted soon.
