LAHORE: The DHA Lahore National Inter-departmental Boxing Championship starts at the Captain Fasih Babar Amin (Shaheed) Sports Complex here on Saturday.

As many as 12 departmental teams affiliated with the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) will take part in the tournament which runs until Tuesday.

According to PBF president Khalid Mahmood, the championships will also be a chance for the participating pugilists to win a place in the Pakistan squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Olympic qualifiers.

Mahmood said the best performers will also get to train in countries like Iran, Turkey and Kazakhsatan. He said the PBF had reached an understanding with these countries during the International Boxing Association Electoral Congress held earlier this week.
