LAHORE: A sessions court on Monday sought a report from police on a petition seeking registration of a case against former prime minister Imran Khan for saying “nuking Pakistan was better than giving power to thieves”.

A citizen, Sheikh Muzaffar, filed the petition pleading that the former prime minister gave a very insensitive and dangerous statement while addressing his supporters at a public meeting.

The petitioner said he along with his family lived in Pakistan and their lives were in danger since Mr Khan gave the objectionable statement. He said an application was filed with Islampura police to register a case against the former premier but the SHO concerned refused to act in accordance with law.

He asked the court to order the police to lodge a case against the former premier and put him on trial.

The court issued a notice to the police and sought a report from the SP investigation concerned by May 18.

REMAND: A judicial magistrate on Monday sent three officials of the Punjab Assembly to jail on judicial remand in a case of attacking MPAs and police during the election of the new chief minister.

Qila Gujjar Singh police arrested research officer Shehbaz Ahmed (grade-17 employee), who is attached with the assembly secretary, security officer Ghulam Murtaza and junior security officer Muhammad Ali.

The police had identified the officials through CCTV footage of the violence in the assembly wherein they were found torturing then opposition members and policemen.

The police presented the arrested officials before the magistrate who sent the suspects on judicial remand and directed the police to submit its investigation report within the stipulated time.
