KARACHI: Engro Powergen Qadirpur Ltd (EPQL), an independent power producer owned by Engro Corporation, has asked the government to provide it with additional 30 million cubic feet per day of gas.

In view of the ongoing power shortfall in the country that led the prime minister to direct the diversion of 220mmscfd gas to the power sector, EPQL CEO Shahab Qader has written a letter to the federal secretary for the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy to demand increased gas supplies.

EPQL is operating a 217-megawatt power plant that runs on permeate gas (low British thermal units and high sulphur) supplied from the Qadirpur gas field. The power producer is currently receiving about 32mmscfd gas and producing 110MW of electricity, which is being supplied to the national grid.
