KHYBER: The local journalists have demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the gruesome murder of Nasrullah Afridi, who was killed in a car bomb blast 11 years ago.

Addressing a gathering held in Bara Press Club to commemorate 11th death anniversary of the slain journalist, local mediapersons, tribal elders and representatives of political parties regretted that no clue was found to the killing of Nasrullah Afridi despite lapse of over a decade.

They said that no government department bothered to initiate an inquiry into his killing despite several requests and appeals made by the family members of Mr Afridi and local journalists.

Malak Waris Khan, a Bara elder, said on the occasion that government should also investigate the killing of a number of Bara elders and other influential persons during the one decade of militancy and military operations in the area from 2003 to 2014.

Paying tributes to the journalistic contributions of Nasrullah Afridi, speakers said that he was not only a brave journalist but also a social worker with a sympathetic heart for poor and needy.

They said that he had never compromised on principals and always spoke and wrote the truth while highlighting the issues of the people of Bara.

Later a shield was awarded to his son Faizullah.
