CIVIC sense means respecting the law. Apart from following traffic rules, ensuring safe driving and respecting senior citizens, one important aspect of having civic sense is to keep roads, streets and public places clean.
While driving through the streets of Karachi, one will find them littered with garbage. The same is true for several main roads and other spaces like playgrounds.
However, as a citizen, I can vouch for the fact that keeping the city clean is an uphill struggle, mainly because there are no garbage cans. In some areas, you can’t find trash cans for miles.
Citizens are accountable for misusing the services provided to them, but they cannot be held liable when they are deprived of the required facilities.
It will cost the government little to install garbage cans at a distance of every 100 metres. Similarly, roadside vendors can also be asked to keep a dustbin to keep their area clean.
The relevant authorities should take the initiative in this regard and install dustbins across the city.
