KHUZDAR: Relief and rehabilitation work has been in full swing in earthquake-hit areas of Aurnaji of Wadh tehsil of Khuzdar district on Saturday.

A 5.2 magnitude tremor struck vast areas of Aurnaji including Sonaro, Nali, Lucky Butt and Zamri the other day, destroying mud houses and partially damaging over 260 houses.

Over 200 families have become homeless in the earthquake, who were evacuated and taken to safer places.

Khuzdar Deputy Commissioner retired Major Muhammad Ilyas Kibzai visited affected areas along with officials of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and supervised the relief and rehabilitation work.

Tents, blankets, comforts, drinking water and ration were being distributed among the quake-affected people “Relief and rehabilitation work is in full swing and the government will not leave the victims alone in this difficult time,” said Mr Kibzai, adding that members of Levies Force and other rescue workers were helping the affected people.

He said that after rescue and relief work, in the second phase, the government would start rehabilitation of the quake-hit people after estimating their losses and for this purpose a survey had also been started in the area.

He said the PDMA had dispatched relief goods in six trucks, including food items, tents, blankets, water tanks and other essentials.

MPA of the area Mir Muhammad Akbar Mengal also visited the quake-hit areas and inspected the rehabilitation work going on there. He said a large area had been affected by the earthquake and people were staying under the open sky. He said the government should provide immediate relief to the affected people.
