KOHAT: Political and social organisations here on Friday demanded the provincial health secretary and district administration to vacate the official residence of the medical superintendent, which has been occupied by a lady doctor, to make room for establishment of gynae ward of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital there.

The building of present gynae ward will be demolished as a nursing college has been planned to be built on its place.

Addressing a press conference, they warned that if notice was not taken of such issues they would hold protests in front of the office of the MS of KDA hospital on May 12 and at the sports complex on May 17 on the occasion of Imran Khan’s visit.

Speaking on the occasion, paramedics association president Rashid Bokhari, Qari Fateh Mohammad of JUI-S, Pir Shah Nawaz and Azam Chacha said the government had approved a nursing college at Liaquat Memorial Hospital with a cost of Rs280 million of which Rs70 million had been released.

The college has to be constructed by demolishing the gynae ward, which has to be shifted to the official residence of the MS. They claimed that the MS residence had been occupied by a lady doctor who was not ready to vacate it despite several notices.

The elders said it was being feared that the funds would lapse.

They also said that Kohat had been affiliated with regional directorate, DI Khan, hundreds of miles away and demanded it should be linked to the Peshawar region in the larger interest of the health staff of Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Kurram and Orakzai districts.
