TOKYO: Shigeru Yoshida, the Japanese Prime Minister and his entire Cabinet will resign on May 6 when the Imperial Edict will be issued calling for convention of the first Japanese Diet under the new constitution, which comes into force on Saturday [May 3]. …The new Japanese constitution which limits the power of Emperor Hirohito and renounces war, was proclaimed in November in Hiroshima, at the Gokuku Shrine, 300 yards from where the atom bomb which wiped out the city exploded. General MacArthur, Supreme Allied Commander in Japan has compared the new constitution with that of Britain. Emperor Hirohito will attend a mass rally in the square in front of the Imperial Palace to introduce the constitution to the citizens of Tokyo. The Allied Occupation Authorities have given permission for the Japanese to let off fire-works to liven up the celebrations.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Lahore, Mr. Firoz Khan Noon, who returned to Lahore after a week’s tour of the Frontier Province, in an interview to API said that a referendum alone could bring peace to the disturbed province. …Mr. Noon said: “…There is great resentment among the masses that a non-League ministry has come into power in the Province through election tricks… .”
