QUETTA: Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz has underlined the need for utilising universities and the youths for bringing peace and tranquility to society.
Speaking at a conference on counterisng extremism and intolerence in society, the CII chairman said that universities and youths could play an important role in bringing about positive changes in the country.
The vice chacellors’ conference was organised by Shaoor Foundation under its PACT for Tolerance project. The event was a collaborative effort between Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), Paigham-i-Pakistan and Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
With the theme of “Academic Discourse on Countering Extremism”, the event was aimed at discussing a draft set of recommendations to bring peace and tolerance at university campuses.
Chairman of the All-Pakistan Vice Chancellors’ Committee & Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Shah lauded the efforts of Shaoor Foundation and called it “the first step” towards a better future.
DG Islamic research institute (Paigham-i-Pakistan) Prof Dr Ziaul Haq said that events like the conference were the need of the hour and focusing on universities was the perfect strategy to curb the menace of extremism and intolerance.
