KARACHI: A private security guard was shot dead and a passer-by wounded by armed robbers who looted a cash van in the Korangi area, police said on Friday.

Area SHO Zahid Lodhi said that the cash van of a private company was intercepted by the armed robbers near Mehdi Mamji Lab in Korangi-1 late on Thursday night.

The company’s guard, Ahsan Khan, 35, challenged them and opened fire. During an exchange of firing, the guard suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen. The bullet pierced through him and hit passer-by Naimat Ali, 70.

The robbers looted Rs72,000 and managed to escape.

Both the wounded men were shifted to the nearby Indus Hospital. The passer-by was discharged after medical aid. The guard got admitted in the intensive-care unit, where he died during treatment, said the police.

Man murdered over trivial issue

A man was murdered over some trial issue in the Eidgah area late on Thursday night.

Area SHO Nadeem Haider said that a scuffle broke out between two people when their cars collided near Old Haji Camp. They fought and hit each other with fists. As a result, Mohammed Ali, 47, fell down on road, suffered head injuries and died.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.
