MANSEHRA: The Right to Public Services Commission has claimed a significant decline in the number of the people’s complaints about non-registration of FIRs by the police and denial of land records by patwaris here.

“We used to receive complaints mostly against the police for not registering FIRs and against patwaris for not sharing land records, but their numbers have significantly declined due to our effective interventions for corrective measures,” RTPS district monitoring officer Umair Dil Khan told Dawn on Monday.

Mr Umair said the RTPS, a statutory body, received half of 700 complaints about non-registration of FIRs and denial of land records during the current year.

“We receive complaints through various sources, including the chief minister’s toll free number 1800 and Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal, and move directly or by telephone to the relevant departments and provide relief to the complainants in hours and days,” he said.

When contacted, World Bank communication specialist Mohammad Atif said the WB had approved a fresh grant of $8 million for the Governance Policy Project to increase the provincial government’s capacity to meet its good governance target in 2023.

“We have established citizen facilitation centres in Mansehra, Abbottabad and other districts and will set up centres in Swabi, Kohat, Nowshera and Mardan districts as well from the fresh grant,” he said.

TRANSFERRED: The provincial police department has transferred Mansehra district police officer Sajjad Khan to Abbottabad district in the same capacity.

Additional inspector general of police Irfan Tariq will be Mr Sajjad’s successor, said a police notification.

KILLED: A man was killed and two suffered critical injuries as a jeep fell into a deep ravine in Torghar district on Tuesday.

The accident occurred as the driver lost control of the jeep while negotiating a sharp turn on the way to Bartoni from Battagram.

The locals shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where the doctors pronounced Mohammad Shaheen dead and referred the injured, including Faheemullah and Mohammad Ijaz, to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, due to critical condition.

Meanwhile, the police have recovered a minor girl kidnapped from Chitta Batta area three days ago and arrested the abductor.

The development came as a police team headed by the Saddar police station’s SHO raided the house of kidnapper Mohammad Shahzad in Dara area.

The girl, who was kept in a wooden cupboard, was sent to Darul Aman (shelter home for women).
