DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two officers of the excise and narcotics control department were martyred when unidentified gunmen attacked them on the Dera-Darazinda Road here on Monday night, the police said.

A police official identified the deceased as 45-year-old Sub-Inspector Rukhsar Khan, a resident of Bannu, and 28-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector Wasim Sajjad, a resident of Kirri Khaisur, Dera.

The attackers also took the weapons of the martyred personnel with them, the official said.

The Counter-Terrorism Department police registered a case against the attackers.

As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and cordoned off the area, the police official said.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the martyred officers were offered at the Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines.

Director General Excise and Narcotics Control, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Aslam Wazir, district excise and taxation officer, Dera, Eng Asghar Khan Wazir, district police officer Najamul Hasnain Liaqat, deputy commissioner Inayatullah Waseem, senior civil, military and administrative officials attended the funeral.

Meanwhile, Mr Aslam Wazir approved Martyrs Package for the slain personnel and also approved recruitment of their children in the department.
