KHYBER: The livestock and veterinary staff of Khyber tribal district administered vaccine to cattle heads, which were affected with a mysterious disease due to dog bites in Tirah valley.
Dr Naeem, the head of the team, said that they come to Tirah after receiving complaints about the death of a number of animals due to a mysterious disease.
He said that after examination of some affected animals, the team found out that the animals were attacked by mad dogs and the virus spread among the local domestic animals including cows, goats and sheep.
Dr Naeem advised the local shepherds and residents of the area to bury the dead animals deep in the earth away from their homes as there was no specific vaccine or medicine available for such virus.
The locals demanded of the livestock department to operationalise the only veterinary dispensary in Karnakhel locality of the valley that was closed for a long time.
They said that domestic livestock was one of their main source of income after agriculture.
They said their domestic animals would not have lost if they had proper treatment facility in the valley.
Meanwhile, cabinet members of Landi Kotal Press Club headed by President Mehrab Afridi met Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, special assistant to chief minister for information and public relations, and apprised him of the difficulties in getting required funds for construction of a building for local press club.
Mr Saif assured the delegation of full support of provincial government in resolution of their problems.
