LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman was martyred when he was attacked by motorcyclists near the Mandan Park in Bannu on Monday.

An official said that the martyred cop, Iftikhar Khan was posted to the investigation branch in the Mandan police station.

He said that the motorcyclists escaped after the attack, adding that the policeman sustained critical bullet injuries and died instantly.

The official said that a contingent of police reached the place, cordoned off the area and launched a search for the attackers. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Bannu, for postmortem.

Funeral prayers of the deceased cop were offered in the police lines attended by Bannu division commissioner Arshad Khan, district police officer Imran Shahid and civil and military officers.

Later, he was laid to rest at a graveyard in Manzar Kakki area with official honour.
