HARIPUR: Two teenage boys drowned in separate incidents here on Saturday, the police said.

Ghazi police said that some youngsters were bathing in the Tarbela Dam barrage when one of them drowned.

Local divers fished out the body after an effort of two hours and shifted it to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Ghazi, where the deceased was identified as Sher Alam, 18, a resident of Allai area of Battagram district.

The second incident occurred in Beer village, when Mian Khan, 17, a resident of Daddar village of Mansehra, drowned while bathing in River Siran.

The police said the deceased had come to his relatives’ house, and went to the river for taking bath.

The villagers fished out his body and shifted it to the Haripur Trauma Centre.

Separately, a woman was killed while her son was injured when their motorcycle skidded off the road and fell into a ditch near Khalo village of Ghazi tehsil.

Police identified the woman as Farzana Bibi, and his injured son as Farrukh, a resident of Hamlet Colony, Ghazi.

Meanwhile, the district administration has banned bathing in Khanpur reservoir and its extensions following the growing incidents of drowning.

According to a notification issued by deputy commissioner Mughees Sanaullah, the ban was imposed as 20 to 25 people had drowned while bathing in Khanpur Dam and its extensions like spillways, plunge pool and water channels during the last three years.
