BAHAWALPUR: Two minor brothers and their sister drowned in the river Sutlej at Mailsi Siphon, near Khairpur Tamewali, about 45km from here, on Tuesday.

According to reports from the Khairpur police station, Altaf Hussain Joya of Basti Nemat and his wife were away from their home to work in their fields.

Their children – Hajira (11), Aftab (9) and Mehtab (7) – also left their house to be with their parents.

On their way, little Mehtab fell into the river. His siblings also jumped into the water to save him but they drowned.

Their parents launched a search for them with the help of other villagers about three hours later and spotted their shoes near the river bank. After a hectic search, the villagers recovered their bodies.
