RAWALPINDI: The Airport Security Force (ASF) and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) jointly foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.4kg of narcotics to Bahrain and detained a passenger at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday.

The ANF spokesman said the seizure was made when the check-in of passengers for Gulf Air flight (GF-771) was in progress. The passenger was stopped by the security staff after he was found acting suspiciously. During baggage search, the ANF staff found 2.412kg of hashish skillfully concealed in the suitcase. The passenger was identified as Asim Shahzad, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin.

Earlier, the ANF had detained a Bahrain-bound passenger carrying 86 heroin-filled capsules in his stomach at Islamabad International Airport.

The suspect was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital where 86 capsules filled with heroin were recovered.
