KARACHI, Dec 3: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Sindh on Saturday rejected all controversial water projects including that of the Kalabagh Dam. The JI Sindh Amir, Dr Mumtaz Memon, talking to various delegations that called on him at his office charged that the government had opened the Pandora’s Box of the Kalabagh Dam just to divert the attention of the masses from its failure in providing timely and effective relief to people in the quake-hit areas.

He alleged that the rulers were trying to hush up the burning issues of price hike, joblessness and lawlessness, and instead creating non-issues to divert the attention of the masses from the real ones.

Mr Memon said that despite the rejection of the controversial project of Kalabagh Dam by three provincial assemblies, the rulers were still bent upon going ahead with the project. This, he said, showed their dictatorial mindset.

He said that when the country was facing challenges at the home front, raising issues of controversial projects was just a bid to harm national unity and solidarity.

Mr Memon said the JI would oppose all controversial projects including that of the Kalabagh Dam and the Thal Canal. These were against the national unity, he said, adding that any conspiracy to harm the sense of national unity would be foiled.

Meanwhile, Mr Memon announced the formation of a political committee of the JI Sindh on Saturday.—PPI
