KOHAT: The police have deployed over 1,500 personnel at worship places, shopping centres and other main thoroughfares for ensuring security during Ramazan.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, district police officer Mohammad Suleman said mobile, rider and foot patrolling had been increased with strict checking at the entry points to the district.

He directed the subordinate officials to increase police presence at the busy places to avoid any unpleasant incident during the fasting month. He said the personnel of the special branch, the security branch, quick response force, elite force and women police would man the busy thoroughfares.

Meanwhile, the civil society activists have deplored demolition of public latrines in the Bannu Bazaar, and collection of high parking fee at the railway station and the KDA Teaching Hospital.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Sada-i-Kohat chairman Zahid Hussain Inqilabi, Karwan-i-Kohat chairman Saeed Akhtar Paracha and cantonment bazaar association president Dilawar Khan Awan regretted that people coming to the bazaar used the public latrines, but the facility had been removed and shops constructed there.

They also condemned the authorities for charging Rs50 parking fee at the railway station and Rs20 at the KDA hospital.
