MIRPURKHAS: Cases of malaria are on the rise in Mirpurkhas city and its outskirts as scores of patients are reporting at civil hospital daily with complaints of the disease but the Municipal Corporation Mirpurkhas (MCM) is playing role of silent spectator.

Rapid growth of mosquitoes and other insects is attributed to the inefficiency of the department responsible for carrying out anti-mosquito spray.

A large number of citizens, including women and children, have fallen prey to malaria while several of them have been admitted to government hospitals for proper treatment.

Civil society and social organisations have condemned the MCM for not launching the anti-mosquito spray in the city.

They urged the higher authorities to take immediate notice of the issue and ensure anti-mosquito spray in the city and outskirts areas without any delay.

Officials of the malaria department and MCM were not available for comments.

Meanwhile, the public health engineering department of Mirpurkhas has failed to ensure regular water supply to the city on the first day of Ramazan.
