LAKKI MARWAT: Ten drug peddlers surrendered to the police in Bannu on Saturday.
They turned themselves over to the Domel police in the presence of area elders.
“The drug traffickers included Naheed, Zahidullah, Mohammad Sher, Manzoor, Munawar, Tabar Ali, Ghaffar Ali, Ismail, Hayatullah and Samad,” DSP Imran Khattak said.
He said regional police officer Syed Ashfaq Anwar and district police officer Imran Shahid had ordered crackdown on drug dealers in the region. He said the surrender was the result of police’s successful actions against narcotics dealers.
The police officer claimed that dozens of drug dealers had been arrested during a special narcotics eradication campaign.
Also on Saturday, Domel police arrested a drug peddler and seized 1,030 gram hashish, 230 gram heroin, a pistol and bullets from him.
Meanwhile, Bannu tehsil council chairman Irfan Durrani distributed cheques worth Rs12 million among the former employees of tehsil municipal administration on Saturday.
The amount is on account of pension gratuity and ‘leave preparatory to retirement’.
On the occasion, Mr Durrani said the former employees were the precious asset of municipal administration as they had rendered great services to serve people.
He said the local body members would take benefit from the expertise of retired workers to ensure provision of basic amenities to people.
