DERA GHAZI KHAN: Locals have welcomed the decision of outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to upgrade Taunsa tehsil to a new district of the province.
Mr Buzdar, before tendering his resignation, had announced establishment of new administrative units in Punjab, including upgrade of Taunsa tehsil to a district.
The chief minister has also decided, in principle, to divide Lahore into two districts and carving out a new district of Muree tehsil.
Former district naib nazim of Dera Ghazi Khan, Sardar Javed Qaisrani, talking to Dawn said that after being upgraded to district Taunsa would comprise two tehsils --- Koh Sulaiman and Taunsa.
He says that main beneficiary of the decision, if it got implemented, will be Buzdar, Qaisrani, Malghani tribes and Khawjgan of Taunsa. Legharis and Khosas of Koh Sulaiman will also be among major stakeholders in the politics of Taunsa if it is upgraded to a district, he adds.
RESCUE 1122: District Emergency Officer Dr Nayar Alam says that positive results of awareness campaign being carried out by community safety teams are emerging.
He said this at a meeting at Rescue 1122 central station at Chowk Chorhata on Saturday that reviewed the emergency report for the month of March.
Dr Alam said out of total 21,351 calls received during the month, 6,021 were emergency calls, 4,007 for seeking information, while others were “unrelated”.
He said that 892 traffic accidents, 36 fire incidents, 129 fights, 4,223 medical emergencies, three building collapses, one cylinder explosion and one drowning incident was reported during the month.
