DERA GHAZI KHAN: Locals have welcomed the decision of outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to upgrade Taunsa tehsil to a new district of the province.

Mr Buzdar, before tendering his resignation, had announced establishment of new administrative units in Punjab, including upgrade of Taunsa tehsil to a district.

The chief minister has also decided, in principle, to divide Lahore into two districts and carving out a new district of Muree tehsil.

Former district naib nazim of Dera Ghazi Khan, Sardar Javed Qaisrani, talking to Dawn said that after being upgraded to district Taunsa would comprise two tehsils --- Koh Sulaiman and Taunsa.

He says that main beneficiary of the decision, if it got implemented, will be Buzdar, Qaisrani, Malghani tribes and Khawjgan of Taunsa. Legharis and Khosas of Koh Sulaiman will also be among major stakeholders in the politics of Taunsa if it is upgraded to a district, he adds.
