LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday issued a notice to the cybercrime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a petition seeking registration of a case against Zulfi Bokhari, former special assistant to the prime minister, and others for sharing doctored video of PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz on social media.

Advocate Chaudhry Ismail Gujjar filed the petition pleading that Bokhari and other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf shared a fabricated video of Ms Nawaz’s media talk during the party’s anti-inflation march.

He said the act of the respondents fell within the definition of cybercrime and they were liable to be booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016. He asked the court to order the FIA to register a criminal case against the respondents.

Judge Rai Yasin Shaheen issued a notice to the FIA cybercrime wing for its reply to the petition by April 4.
