Infiltration charge rejected

Published December 3, 2005

LAHORE, Dec 2: There has been no infiltration from Pakistan into India, says Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri. Speaking to reporters at the International Conference on the Future of Schools and Education here at a local hotel on Friday, Mr Kasuri described the Indian allegations in this regard as baseless, and said the borders all over the world could not be completely sealed.

“If India wishes that a sparrow from here does not fly into its zone, it is not possible,” he remarked.

He said India had a huge paramilitary force and it should not be complaining about the infiltration issue. He said several Indian leaders also had admitted of late that infiltration from Pakistani side had ceased.

Answering a question, Mr Kasuri said the progress on the Kashmir issue was not as much as it should have been. He said India should take bold decisions to resolve the issue, which was inevitable for a lasting peace in the region.

He said the peace process between the two countries had enhanced people-to-people contacts, besides improving the trade relations. The opening of five points at the Kashmir border was also the result of the peace initiatives, he added.

Responding a query on the performance of the foreign office, he said Pakistan’s membership of the Commonwealth was restored owing to its policies. It had successfully organized the donors conference as well, he said.—Staff Reporter
