SWABI: Two brothers were killed over a land dispute in Panjpir village of Swabi tehsil here on Saturday.

SHO Altaf Khan quoted a complainant, Mashud Iqbal, as saying that his father, Amjid Iqbal and uncle, Taufiq Iqbal were standing on a piece of land they had purchased earlier, when their rivals came there and opened fire on them after arguments.

The complainant identified the attackers as Ansar Khan, Sadiq Akbar, Sher Mohammad and Hassan Akbar, belonging to the same family. He told the police that the attackers claimed ownership of the land and warned the victims of staying away from it.

The bodies were shifted to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, for autopsy.

Later, an FIR was registered in the Swabi city police station against the suspects.

HAILSTORM DAMAGES CROPS: A hailstorm damaged standing crops in Swabi on Saturday.

Strong gales uprooted signboards, billboards and solar panels, and disrupted electricity supply to various regions.

Peshawar Electric Supply Company officials said field staff was busy restoring electricity supply to the affected areas.

The hailstones damaged tobacco, sugarcane, wheat and mustard crops, according to farmers.

“My vegetable crop is 40 per cent damaged in hailstones,” Farooq Khan of Palodand village said.

Rukhsar Ali of Pirtab village said he had never seen such huge-sized hailstones in his life.

The farmers said the affected areas should be declared calamity-hit.

Khalid Khan, district president of Kisan Board, said the government should provide financial assistance to the poor farmers.
