REAL PERPETRATORS: This refers to the report “Beware of one man’s total control, cautions Justice Faez Isa” (March 10), which reported the judge as raising a question and answering it thus: “We lost half the country; was it because of corrupt politicians? It was because of power-hungry generals.” I beg to differ with him as it is a historical fact that power-hungry politicians played a major role in the breakup of Pakistan. Perhaps the judge was too young at the time to fully comprehend the events of 1971 as they unfolded.

IN BAD TASTE: Famous Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o in her recent visit to Karachi opted for outfits designed by Indian designers, which was a choice in bad taste keeping in view the tense equation between the two countries. The actress would have done well had she factored in the cultural and social realities of the host nation.

LACK OF MORALITY: I wonder what kind of example the political leadership is setting for the masses at large by resorting to below-the-belt tactics, including the use of derogatory remarks against one another. Every dispute can be solved by proper debate, but criticising the opponent in an unethical way while standing on a stage before hundreds and thousands of people, where every spoken word and action is recorded by the media, can only lead to uncivilised existence.

OBESITY ISSUES: According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 58.1 per cent people in Pakistan are overweight and 43.9pc are suffering from obesity which is generally caused by consuming high-calorie sugary foods and a sedentary lifestyle. Obesity leads to diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol level and several other ailments. Activities like walking, jogging and swimming for at least 2.5 hours every week and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help prevent obesity.
