KARACHI: The Chief Minister of the North-West Frontier Province will be from Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam and that of Baluchistan from National Awami Party, according to an understanding reached between the two parties, Mr. Ghaus Bux Bizenjo, President, West Pakistan NAP, said here yesterday [March 11]. In an interview he further said that according to a party decision, Khan Wali Khan would surrender his Provincial Assembly seat and retain the National Assembly membership. Mr. Bizenjo said that separate drafts for an interim constitution are being prepared by the Pakistan People’s Party and the National Awami Party.

Both the drafts, he said, will be presented before a joint meeting of the representatives of the three parties … in Lahore on March 18. More meetings will be held in Rawalpindi to give final shape to the interim constitution. — Staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by a staff correspondent from Lahore,] President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto believed that the recent agreement between his party and the NAP-JUI was a victory of the people. There was no question of the defeat or victory of any political party, the President said. It had given the nation a sense of direction and purpose, the President told the Governor’s Conference held here … today [March 11] under his chairmanship.
